With New Year's Eve approaching, many shoppers are rushing to make last-minute purchases, whether for champagne, raclette cheese, or fireworks. However, it’s crucial to be aware of reduced supermarket opening hours. 
 
According to reports, on December 31st, major supermarket chains and discount stores, such as Aldi Nord, Netto Marken-Discount, and Penny, are expected to close around 2 PM. Although December 31st is not an official holiday, regional variations may occur depending on the location and chain. 
 
Specific Store Hours

- Rewe, Edeka, and Kaufland: Generally close at 2 PM, but some branches may stay open until 6 PM. It's best to confirm directly with your local store. 

- Lidl and Aldi Süd: These chains usually operate until 4 PM in most areas. However, in states like Bremen, Thuringia, and Hesse, stores are also expected to close at 2 PM.
