Rúben Amorim pledges support for Mason Mount after injury
Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount will be sidelined for
"several weeks" due to a leg injury, manager Rúben Amorim has
confirmed. The 25-year-old England international was forced off just 14 minutes
into Sunday’s Manchester derby, a match United won against their city
rivals.
Speaking after United’s Carabao Cup exit to Tottenham, Amorim expressed
concern for Mount’s condition:
"I don’t know the exact date for his return, but it’s going to be a long time," the manager stated.
Since joining United from Chelsea in July 2023, Mount has faced numerous
fitness challenges. He has made only nine Premier League starts, just four of
them this season. His injury history includes thigh, calf, head, and tendon
issues, which sidelined him for five months last season and two months in the
current campaign.
When asked if Mount is injury-prone, Amorim responded:
"That’s not my area. What I can do is help him. We’ll use this time to prepare him for our style of play and give him space to reflect on other aspects."
The coach also highlighted how the demanding schedule complicates
recovery:
"We don’t train enough as a full team because of the constant traveling and matches. This makes recovery harder. We manage it with rotations, but it’s challenging. Mason is working hard, and we will support him all the way."
Despite the setbacks, Mount’s determination and Amorim’s commitment to
his recovery underline the club’s belief in the player’s ability to overcome
these hurdles and return stronger.
"I don’t know the exact date for his return, but it’s going to be a long time," the manager stated.
